We value your privacy by giving you complete control over your data. Below is how we handle your privacy depending on how you interact with Obsidian.
All data is saved on your device locally and is never sent to our server. We do not collect any personal data.
Obsidian connects to the internet to periodically check for new updates. You can disable this feature by going to in Settings → About.
Obsidian also connects to the internet when you browse and install plugins and themes, or if you access an embedded website, e.g. if you have used an iframe in one of your notes.
If you choose to use Obsidian Sync and/or Obsidian Publish, we will store your data in order to provide the service. In the case of Obsidian Sync, all of your data including file names are end-to-end encrypted. Read more about Obsidian Sync privacy.
In order to purchase Obsidian products and services, you will need to provide an email address. Other than payment processors (Stripe for credit card, Wechat, and Alipay payments, and PayPal for PayPal payments), we do not share your email address with any third party. We will only send you payment receipts and important product updates.
