This update brings faster Mermaid diagrams that match your theme, reorderable filters in Bases, and new URI and CLI commands for adding content under a heading.

Diagrams and charts

Mermaid diagrams and charts are now rendered using our new library Pele, compatible with the latest Mermaid 12.1.0 syntax.

  • Diagrams now appear faster and use the colors and fonts of your theme.
  • Diagrams are now responsive to the width of a note, and can be zoomed and panned when they are scaled down.
  • Diagrams are now shown without asking first, since Pele can’t run code. The Show Mermaid diagrams in notes setting has been removed.

Improvements

  • URI/CLI: Added commands to append or prepend to a heading, and control for line breaks around appended/prepended content.
  • Suggestions now ignore diacritics (accent marks) so cafe matches café in link suggestions, Quick switcher, Command palette, and Bases search.
  • Tooltips no longer repeat text that’s already fully visible. They only appear when text is cut off.
  • Dragging items to reorder them now animates the item smoothly into its new position when you drop it.
  • Vim: Updated Vim mode with new commands and fixes, including g?, :put, search patterns in : ranges (e.g. :/foo/,/bar/d), Vim-style regexes with :set nopcre, <A-…> mappings on macOS, and fixes for gj, :sort, and ;, ,, >, and < in visual mode.

Performance

  • Community plugins now load faster when Obsidian starts.

Bases

  • Added dragging to reorder filters, and a menu on each filter row to add filters or move them between All views and This view.
  • Search now says when a result limit hides matches, e.g. “Showing 10 of 40”.
  • Formula fields can now be resized up to the width of the window.

Editor

  • Moving the caret up or down in Live Preview preserves its position relative to list text, accounting for bullets, numbers, and checkboxes.
  • With Smart lists turned on, indenting, unindenting, or moving a list item up or down now also moves the items nested under it. Pressing Enter at the end of an item with nested items now adds a new first nested item, or a new item below it if the item is folded.

No longer broken

  • Fixed renaming a file opened from outside the vault closing its tab.
  • Fixed Quick switcher failing to create a note while a file from outside the vault is open.
  • Fixed Obsidian reopening in a loop, even after quitting, when it’s the default app for a file type it can’t open (e.g. a .canvas file with Canvas turned off).
  • macOS: Fixed Quick Look previews blocking keyboard navigation for some users (requires latest installer).
  • Properties: Fixed Show source on an embedded note with invalid properties opening the note in place of the current one. It now edits the embed in place when possible, or opens the note in a new tab.
  • Fixed page previews and canvas cards of a heading (e.g. [[Note#Heading]]) hiding text, or showing it as properties, when the section under the heading starts with a --- divider.
  • Fixed the hints below property value suggestions (e.g. “Type [[ to link note”) not showing.
  • Fixed “Reveal file in navigation” in the Bookmarks right-click menu doing nothing when the Files core plugin is turned off.
  • Fixed “No backlinks found.” blinking in the Backlinks pane while Obsidian starts.

Bases

  • Fixed a filter value with a double quote or a backslash saving as a broken filter.
  • Fixed toolbar menus staying in place when the window is resized.

Editor

  • Live Preview: Fixed selecting bold, italic, or highlighted text sometimes including only one of its hidden **, *, or == marks.

Developers

  • prepareFuzzySearch and prepareSimpleSearch now ignore accents on Latin and Greek letters (e.g. cafe matches café).
  • Closing formatting tokens now include a formatting-*-end segment in their syntax-tree node names, not just a cm-formatting-*-end class. For example, the closing inline-code backtick is now formatting_formatting-code_formatting-code-end_inline-code. Plugins that match full node names like formatting-code_inline-code will miss closing tokens; match formatting-code instead.
  • Mermaid diagrams are now drawn using Pele. Added --mermaid-* CSS variables for colors, corner radius, and font weights. Elements inside a diagram have Pele’s .pele-* classes. Obsidian no longer includes Mermaid: loadMermaid() and window.mermaid now draw with Pele and support initialize(), render(), parse() and mermaidAPI.getConfig(), setConfig() and render(). Their SVG has Pele’s classes, not Mermaid’s. New code can use window.pele once loadMermaid() resolves.
  • The PIXI global is now loaded the first time a graph opens, instead of at start-up. Use loadPixi() to load it before then.
